1994 and 1993 winners are...

1994- Schindler's List

I feel weird saying that I liked this movie because it is about a horrific thing that happened in history but I did like it. This movie was done very well. Steven Spielberg directed this movie and I believe no other director could have made this movie as well as he did. It is so upsetting to know so many people died but it is uplifting to know that Oskar Schindler saved 1100 people from being gassed at the Auschwitz concentration camp. I don't have family who went through this and I don't know any one who had family or went through this themselves but the movie always touches me every time I watch it. I'm actually getting a little emotional writing this. I don't know why but just thinking about this film and thinking of what the Jewish people went through and the ones that had died it makes me sad. It also makes me mad that Hitler could do the things he did to human beings. I hope he is burning in hell for the things that he did.

Random thought: When I was in the 8th grade I went to Washington D.C. for a class trip during spring break and we went to the Holocaust Museum and it was so emotional going through it. I learned a lot from the museum. In history class we would talk about the Holocaust but to be honest I didn't know how much the people went through and what the Nazi's did to them until I went through the Holocaust Museum.

1993- Unforgiven

I liked this movie and I might watch it again. It was a good movie but I don't think it was Academy Award winning movie but someone had to. I looked at the other nominees and to me none of the other nominees should have been nominated let alone to even win. I guess the people who decide what movie wins had to pick a winner and Unforgiven was the best choice out of all the nominations. I could have been fine without some scenes and some of the language they used. I don't watch westerns but I was surprised that I liked it. The movie is about an Old West gunslinger takes one last job with his friend and a young man. This is a very short summary as I don't feel like typing out the whole summary. If you want to know what it is about read the real summary or better yet watch the movie.

The first few minutes of the film kind of bothered me because it is a man cutting up the face and body of a prostitute after he feels she had insulted him. Who knows maybe she did but for me it was not my way to start a movie. Clint Eastwood directed the movie and also starred in it. I was curious why he decided to start the movie that way. It is part of the story line but I if I made the movie this scene would not be the very first scene. Oh well.

In the movie Clint's character is widower and it made me think, out of all of the movies I have seen him in he is usually a widower or he is divorced. If he is divorced you never see his ex-wife. Has he ever been in a movie where he is married and you actually see his wife?

Gene Hackman is also in this movie and I HATED his character. In the few movies I have seen him in I have liked his character. In this movie his character make me sooooo incredibly mad. He plays a bad and he does a great job in playing the bad guy but like I said he makes me so mad. There were so many times that I wanted to just punch and kick him with all my might. There is a scene where his character beats Richard Harris' character to a bloody pulp for hiding his weapon. So I yell at my TV for Gene Hackman's character to stop beating Professor Dumbledore cause obviously he will be able to hear me. Richard Harris played Professor Dumbledore in the first two Harry Potter movies before he died, just to let you know.

Morgan Freeman also stars in this movie and I have liked him as an actor since first watching him in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. I really like his character in Unforgiven. He adds some amusement to the film by some of the funny lines that he says. I think he is a great actor and he does a great job in this movie.
